Cunard Line "Asia", New York - Queenstown 19th December 1860 - 1st January 1861. Entire dated "New Orleans Dbre 13 / (1)860" addressed to Reus, Spain in Catalonia. Prepaid 10 Cents double rate with 1857, 5¢ brown, type II, pair tied by origin postmark, red New York exchange and "12.Rs." inland rate handstamp. Atlantic transit of 12 days, Very Fine.

Portland (Maine) Exchange Office: Allan Line CANADIAN II Via Quebec to Portland. Envelope with content dated "Mallin July 26" bearing a postscript stating "the address Mr John Starate mallinhall mallin by derry Co donegal ireland" and posted on the 25th July 1860. Carried by the Canadian II from Londonderry leaving on the 27th July arriving Quebec on the 8th August and Portland the following day. Addressed to Wilmington, Delaware where it arrived on the 10th August., Very Fine, a scarce Portland exchange office marking.

San Francisco to Europe via Panama & New York, San Francisco - Germany 1861. 1855, 10¢ Nesbitt envelope with additional 1857, 10¢ green, type V, horizontal pair from Stockton, California February 28th, 1861 prepaying the 30 cent rate to Germany via the Prussian Closed Mail. Carried to New York via Panama to be put onto Cunard Line?s Arabia leaving New York March 27 arriving Queenstown April 7. 1861. Routed via Aachen to Herford, Westphalia; small stamp flaws, otherwise Very Fine.

NGL Line Steamship "Hansa" Mails to France, Maiden Return Voyage, New York December 21st 1861 - Southampton January 3rd. Envelope originating in San Francisco November 21st 1861 addressed to Langon 29 miles S.W. of Bordeaux on the Girond River. Routed via Panama to arrive New York November 18th receiving that offices 12 cent credit stamp to Bremen and put onto the Hansa for Southampton. Prepaid the 15 cent rate of April 1857 with 1861, 5¢ brown yellow + 10¢ green (s.e. at left). Routed via Southampton -Calais - Paris on January 3rd arriving Langon the following day. Atlantic Transit of 13 days, Very Fine.

Prepaid 15 cents for the under ¼ ounce rate, franked with 1857, 5¢ brown, type II + 10¢ green, type V, at New York found to be over ¼ ounce and stamped "SHORT PAID" in red, 18 cent debit cds of New York applied, charged 16 decimes at Calais, some eraser erosion in address panel, otherwise Very Fine.

Inman Line "Edinburgh", New York July 20th - Queenstown August 2nd 1861. Envelope posted at New York to receive the "NEW PAID YORK 3 / JUL / 20" 3 cent credit to Britain departure stamp. Addressed to Paris and prepaid the 15 cent treaty rate for under ¼ ounce of April 1857 using 1857, 3¢ dull red, 5 overlapping singles tied by red grid handstamps. Reverse has Paris arrival stamp for August 5th. Atlantic Transit of 11 days; small cover tear at bottom, Very Fine.

Galway Line?s "Adriatic" Maiden Voyage, New York March 13th - Cowes March 24th 1861. Entire dated "New York 12 March 1861" endorsed "Pr Adriatic" addressed to Cognac. Transferred through Southampton to the Havre packet arriving there March 26th. Reverse bears French routing of Le Havre A Paris of 26th, Paris of 27th, Paris A Bordeaux of 27th and Cognac arrival of March 28th 1861. Atlantic Transit of 10 days; light tone spots, F.-V.F.

Lovely Three Color Franking on Cover from Ohio to Paris, Prepaid 15 Cents. With 1861, 1¢ blue, two singles + 3£ rose + 10¢ yellow green, discovered at New York to be over ¼ ounce and stamped "SHORT PAID", at Calais the prepayment was ignored and the cover rated "16" decimes for the full rate New York to Paris, Very Fine.

Atlantic Transit of 20 days to Bremen (delayed at Southampton until February 5th); small cover tear at left, otherwise Very Fine.

Routed via Aachen to Vienna; cover missing most of bottom flap, F.-V.F.
