Andrew Jackson. Portrait design on India die sunk on card (91x105mm), with titling and "National Bank Note Co. N.Y." below, accompanied by a similar portrait design cropped from a banknote, Very Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

This portrait was engraved in 1861 by National Bank Note Co. engraver Joseph P. Ourdan, for use on a $1,000 banknote produced for the Confederacy prior to the North & South embargo. The Blackjack stamp vignette is actually the central portion of the same die.

Francis patent on greenish wove paper, imperforate, top margin block of 4 with "National Bank Note Company" imprint, o.g., lightly hinged at top, never hinged at bottom, full even margins. bold color, top portion of block with a blue staining, as result of coming in contact with an acidic element (certificate calls this water staining) and the intended effect of this patent paper, otherwise Very Fine; with 2009 P.F. certificate.
