Bold patriotic design with verse at top (Dietz SM-1, verse 9), on cover to Catawba Springs, N.C., franked with manuscript canceled 1862, 5¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing, horizontal pair, "Rocky Mount, N.C., Jan 14" cds alongside; light toning around stamps and cover missing backflap, certificate states the the cover is cleaned however we feel this is in error, F.-V.F.; with 2008 A.P.S. certificate.

Confederacy, Palmetto State Flag. Blue letterhead design on letter datelined "Pendleton Feb 23d 1861" concerning business matter and sending check for a balance due, writer is W.H.D. Gaillard, a very famous Charleston namesake… for whom the Gaillard Auditorium in downtown Charleston is named, Very Fine.

Confederacy, "The Soldiers Dream of Home" Captured Union Patriotic Lettersheet. Intricate design in blue on Patriotic lettersheet datelined "Tupolo Miss M. & O. Railroad/3rd Brigade, 1st Division Army of the West/3rd Battalion Cavalry Co. D/June 23, 1862" written to "Mrs. E. Groves Raymond, Miss." letter with interesting contents, Billey Kethley is quite sick with Typhoid Fever. I can not tell how it will terminate but he is far from being out of danger - I hope he may get well but can not but feel uneasy. I could not send him home all furloughs are stopped from this time We are in camp doing nothing much but drilling and standing piquet which we have enough of. We know but little of the Federals, they are at Corinth but what they are up to I can not tell - I think we will leave here soon where we are going I can not tell we have five days rations always on hand and that includes something Gen. Price has not got back yet when he does I suppose we will soon know where we are going., complete transcript is included, letter with some staining, Fine and rare.

Confederacy, South Carolina Flag. In blue (Dietz FSC-3) on cover franked with United States 1857 3¢ dull red (small defect) cancelled by grid and postmarked "Charleston, S.C./Mar. 17, 1861" cds, addressed to Col. A.P. Calhoun (son of John C Calhoun), Pendleton Village, S.C., cover slightly reduced at top, otherwise Very Fine, a nice Confederate States usage.
Estimate    $500 - 750.
