Lot 2151    

Hawaii, 1882, 1¢ red on buff & 3¢ blue green. Both cards uprated for usage to Great Britain, both have Dec 15 1892 Honolulu duplex cancels, the UX1 with message datelined "G.P.O., Honolulu, H.I., Dec. 14/92" and manuscript "For inland use. Adhesive stamp added to make up deficiency for foreign circulation. 'Akahi Kkeneta' means one cent / W.H. (Walter Hill, Postmaster General of Hawaii at that time)"; red London entry cds on reverse; bit of foxing; the UX3 uprated with #52, same duplex cancel, same dateline on reverse and manuscript, "The only service in which this card is now used is for countries outside of the Postal Union. / W.H." Card with bit of edge toning and few trivial faults; interesting and most unusual content, F.-V.F.
Scott No. UX1 & UX3    Estimate $200 - 300.

Walter Hill was Postmaster General, 1891-1893. Hill became ill in early 1893 and his family committed him to an insane asylum. His resignation was effective April 1, 1893.
