Samoa, 1895-1900, 1½d & 3d on 2d Surcharge Issues. In excess of 400 stamps on album and stock pages; "Surcharged 1½d" Issue with the various surcharge and stamp shade types with many in blocks, including pane of 119 with a double surcharge variety, similar "R 3d" Issues including surcharge doubling and double perf varieties, section of the green surcharge issues, etc.; few flaws, generally F.-V.F.

Samoa, 1895, 3d on 2d Orange, Perf 12x11½. In combination with 1890-92, ½d purple brown + 2½d rose on registered Sellschopp cover to Blankenburg, Germany, tied by blue "Apia, Samoa, May 22, 95" type 5 cds's, matching straight line Registered handstamp, red London oval transit and receiving backstamp; light cover tone spots at lower right, Very Fine (Odenweller 568).

In combination with 1890, ½d purple brown, horizontal pair on fresh cover to San Francisco, Cal., tied by "Apia, Samoa, Jan 30" cds's (day inverted), entry postmark on face; small corner nick at bottom left, Very Fine, this being the earliest known usage of the 1½d on 2d Surcharge issue on cover.

Type Ia surcharges, in combination with 1896, 2½d black, perf 10x11 on registered cover to Camden, N.J., all tied by "Apia, Samoa, Jan, 25, 99" cds's (year inverted) with matching straight line Registered straight line handstamp alongside, in conjunction with U.S. 1895, 8¢ violet brown paying the registry fee, tied by San Francisco oval handstamp and purple "San Francisco, Reg. Div., Feb 8, 1899" cds (year also inverted) alongside, reverse with manuscript "PM, Apia, Samoa" notation, Very Fine (Odenweller 227). Scott No. U.S. 272.

Tied by bold "Apia, Samoa, Apr 23, 96" cds on cover used as wrapper paying the printed matter rate to Sondershausen, Germany, pencil manuscript "Newspapers" endorsement at top and cover opened at sides and corners clipped, receiving backstamp, Very Fine, ex Laura Smith, Dr. W.J. Mitchell.
