Dec 13 1903" wavy line machine cancel on reverse of cover bearing 2¢ carmine (301) tied by "San Francisco Cal., Nov 2" duplex to Berkeley Cal., cover roughly "opened by mistake" at right with seal folded over (still intact), returned to sender with large pointing hand handstamp, a Fine use, The only recorded use of either Berkeley seal.

Large margins, manuscript "Aug 18" and signed, paper adherences to back with thin spot and the usual horizontal crease, still striking and Fine, illustrated in Scott Catalogue where noted, "No. LOX27 is valued with crease and small flaws", the only recorded example and illustrated in Scott, ex-Hopkins, Lyons, Richardson; with 1973 P.F. certificate.

Based on typeface and setting, this typeset seal probably dates from the 1870s. It is among the earliest designs.

Affixed to seal top edge of cover bearing 3¢ Franklin coil tied by "Coldwater Ohio July 28 1918" duplex to Delmar Del., opened in error and reclosed at Smyrna with purple "Missent to Smyrna Del" two-line handstamp and then sent on to correct address; roughly opened at left but seal undamaged, Fine and unique example of this seal, ex-Lyons.
