Goodwin was the proprietor of the California Penny Post), explanatory ad text at left listing nine cities and towns where service was offered; cover with pinholes, light fold and slightly reduced at top, Very Fine appearance, pictured on Coburn's Letters of Gold (pg. 63), ex Knapp, Meroni, Boker, Hawley & Kuphal.

California Penny Post Co., 1855-59, 7¢ Black on Buff. Printed frank with ad directive at left, on buff cover addressed to the President of the Chamber of Commerce in San Francisco, franked with 1852, 1¢ blue, type IV tied by "San Francisco, Cal., Aug 11" cds, Extremely Fine, an outstanding California Penny Post 7¢ Black on Buff Frank Entire usage in combination with a 1¢ blue adhesive, One of Only Two Such Combinations Known, ex Dale-Lichtenstein.

Cover with directive imprint crossed out in pencil with "Over" notation at left. On the reverse, a notation reads "Mr Weller will please notice the address on this letter, and in delivering it, establish a precedent from which he will not depart." with later portion crossed out in pencil.

Everts Snell & Co./Express/Feather River. Spectacular hand illustration in color featuring feather quill and name of addressee in bold gothic letters, on what appears to be wrapper, with blue "Marysville, Dec 27 Cal" balloon cds, to Pennsylvania, bold red handstamp "Paid" & manuscript "Paid 12½" with oval "Everts Snell & Co./Express/Feather River" handstamp on reverse, opened out and somewhat tattered, still exceedingly rare, Fine and attractive.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Everts, Snell & Co's. Express/Feather River. Blue double-lined oval handstamp (with "Everts" spelled correctly) on 1853 incoming stampless cover with "Albion, Mich, Jul 5" origin postmark and "X" in circle handstamped rate marking, to Marysville where taken out of the mails for delivery in the mines with "1.50" pencil express rate, Very Fine, ex-Knapp.
