Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ lithograph and 5¢ De La Rue, tied together by "Richmond Va, Jul 10, 1862" cds on cover to Tarboro, N.C. with manuscript endorsement "In haste"; reduced a bit at left, Very Fine, a scarce combination franking.

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing, vertical pair, clear to large margins, tied by blue "Dublin, Va., Oct 3" cds on cover with blue illustrated Emory & Henry College cameo corner card, to Peters Creek, Va.; cover slightly reduced at right, Very Fine.

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing (large margins, nick at top) tied on back flaps of large magnificent silver gilt embossed valentine cover by blue "Columbia, S.C./Feb. 16" (1862) cds with matching (due) "5" as it was clearly overweight; addressed to Mrs. Emma Craig, Sumterville, So Ca; stamp torn in half upon opening, Very Fine, a spectacular & seldom seen item, Valentine uses in the Confederacy are quite scarce due to only a handful of opportunities as well as the exigencies of war, ex-Engel and Everett (his ME on back flap).

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ blue, local print, horizontal pair, tied by clear blue "Franklin Depot, Va./Apr 17" (1863) on cover to San Marcos, Texas, manuscript sender's instruction "Via Port Hudson & Alexandria La."; minor discoloration, Very Fine and rare Trans-Mississippi usage, just prior to the establishment of Express mail in late April of 1863; with 1991 C.S.A. certificate.
