Hawaii, "ADVERTISED, Honolulu, H.I., Sep 1899", 46mm x 26mm oval datestamp (MH unrecorded, 1RRRR), clear strike in red on reverse of inbound July 12, 1899 cover from the United States bearing 5¢ dark blue (281) horizontal pair tied by cork cancel with "Mattapoisett, Mass. Jul 12 1899" cds, advertised to no avail and "Pas Reclamé./Unclaimed" handstamp in red (M-H 767) and "Dead Letter Office, Honolulu, H.I. Jan 19, 1900" oval in red (MH unrecorded, 1RR), sent to Washington D.C. where purple "Returned to Writer, D.L.O." handstamp and matching "Dead Letter Office, F.D. U.S., Feb 9, 1900" backstamp; Very Fine and remarkable usage, ex-Golden.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Gregory records only one other strike (December 1899) of this Honolulu advertised oval. It was unlisted by Meyer-Harris and the example offered here is only the second strike recorded. The Dead Letter Office oval is known used only from May 18, 1899 to May 31, 1900.

Hawaii, Dead Letter Office, Honolulu, H.I., Nov 14, 1899, oval date stamp in red (MH unrecorded, 1RR) on locally addressed 1894 1¢ red postal card, with matching "Unclaimed, Non reclamé" straight line (MH 766) and "Return to Writer" in pointing hand (MH 755) handstamps, red "Honolulu, Advertised" cds (MH 751) and canceled by Honolulu duplex postmark; minor edgewear, Fine and rare dead letter office marking.

Hawaii, Hoaeae, bold violet handstamp on 1894 2¢ brown, exceptionally well centered within balanced margins, trace of additional magenta cancel at left, Very Fine, ex-Golden.
Meyer-Harris No. 604    Estimate $200 - 300.

This name is given to a land section in the vicinity of Ewa, above Pearl Lagoon near where Waipahu was situated. It is shown on an 1881 government map. This land became part of the Oahu Sugar Co. when it was formed in 1897.

Hawaii, Hobron Drug Co., Lt'd/Wholesale and Retal Druggists/Honolulu, H.I., two different corner card covers, one with "Alhambra" illustrated ad on reverse, both franked with 1894, 1¢ yellow tied by "Honolulu, H.I." 1896 duplex postmarks and locally addressed, both with straightline "Pas Réclamé, Unclaimed" and "Return to Writer" handstamps, the Jan. 6 in red and the Nov. 2 use in purple; each with small tape stains on reverse, Fine pair.
