Hawaii, 1894, 10¢ yellow green, well centered, used with 1894, 5¢ rose lake, tied by "Honolulu, May 22 1894" duplexes on registered cover to Denver, Col., perfect "Honolulu Hawaii, May 23 1894" cds with matching "A.R." and "Registered, Hawaiian P.O., 1244" handstamps, San Francisco and Denver backstamps; corner nick, a fresh and Very Fine use.

Hawaii, 1894, 25¢ deep blue, tied by "San Francisco Cal." oval on large size cover to London, England, matching "Paquebot." straightline handstamp, reverse with "San Francisco, Cal. F.D. Jul 1 1895" cds and red London (7.15) arrival d.s.; some edge faults including reduced at left; Fine, a rare high-value paquebot use.

Hawaii, 1894, 25¢ deep blue, tied by purple "Koloa, Kauai." cds (M-H 251.02) on registered cover to Germany, magenta "Registered No." script two-line handstamp (MH unrecorded, 1RRR in purple), "Honolulu Aug 22 1897" dcds and matching "R" and "A.R." handstamps, New York registry etiquette, reverse with San Francisco (9.1), New York (9.7) and Rudesheim (9.16) transits; small opening tears, a Very Fine and scarce Koloa registered usage.
Scott No. 79    Estimate $500 - 750.

This is the earliest recorded example of the Koloa script "Registered No." two-line handstamp and the only example recorded in magenta. Gregory records this marking in 1899.

Hawaii, 1899, 1¢ dark green, tied by "Honolulu, H.I., Dec 2, 1899" duplex postmark on locally addressed Bergstrom Music Co., Ltd. corner card cover, reverse with illustrated The "Crown" Piano upright piano in globe advertisement; stamp with some faint perf toning, otherwise Very Fine, a very scarce Hawaiian illustrated ad cover.

Hawaii, 1899, 2¢ rose, radiant color, tied by "Honolulu May 16 1899" duplex on W.W. Dimond & Co. advertising cover to Kanalei, Kanai, bearing two strikes of magenta "Collect,……Cents." handstamp (M-H 763) with crayon "4" rating, reverse with "Hanalei, Kauai, 17 May 1899" arrival cds (M-H 253.01); reduced a bit at left, small erosion hole, Fine and attractive usage.

Postage due stamps were never issued in Hawaii. This cover was a double-weight letter, short paid 2¢, and marked due for double the defi2250ciency of four cents.

Because of an outbreak of the bubonic plague, fumigation was required on all mail from December of 1899 until April 30, 1900.
