(Double Transfer) 1863, 2¢ black, Major Double Transfer ("Atherton Shift"), of top left corner and "U.S. Postage", light cork cancel, nicely centered especially for this typically off-centered variety, bold color and strong impression on bright paper enhancing this dramatic shift, scissor blunted perfs at top left and bottom left, Fine attractive appearance, a lovely example of this extremely rare variety, pictured in Brookman (Vol. II, Figure 9), ex-Russo; with 2009 P.F. certificate.

1863-67, 2¢ black, Shifted Transfer Collection, of 82 stamps and 37 covers showing a variety of major and minor transfer shifts, including double and triple transfers with major shifts similar to that of the Preston and Metzger shifts, covers including horizontal strip of five with two center stamps prominently showing major double transfer at upper left and lower left corners; condition varies, F.-V.F. overall.

1863, 2¢ black, Major Double Transfer ("Atherton Shift"), of top left corner and "U.S. Postage", vertical brush stroke precancel, affixed to wrapper addressed to Rome, Pa. with G.W. Kinney, H.R. (Pennsylvania House of Representatives) sender corner card; sealed wrapper tear through stamp effectively "tying" adhesive to wrapper, Fine appearance, a unique newly discovered precancel and wrapper usage from the 2¢ Blackjack "Atherton shift", only few examples of this rare major double transfer exist on cover.
