1867, 2¢ black, Z. Grill, deep rich color, tied by Red Four Point Geometric cancel and matching "New York City, Feb 18" cds on locally addressed cover, 1868 docketing and corner card date stamp at left; cover with small tear at top center and stamp with nibbed corner and tiny perf tear at top, otherwise Very Fine, a very attractive usage.

1867, 2¢ black, Z. grill, in combination with 1861, 30¢ orange on legal size cover to Annapolis, Md., tied together by target cancels with matching "Baltimore, Md., Apr 7" cds and "Registered" boxed handstamp, attorney corner card handstamp, cover file fold and light edge wear, 30¢ with minor wrinkle, F.-V.F., an extremely rare combination.

Grill, Mint & Used Balance, 27 singles; including one unused gutter margin single (reperfed), used with various fancy geometrics, color cancels including 4 in red including two different star and crossroad cancels, 6 in blue including checkerboard, grids and one with original cover from where it was removed, others with minor double transfer and a dramatic perf shift with captured partial imprint; some small faults, otherwise Fine for the issue.

(Imprints & Plate Numbers) 1867, 2¢ black, E. Grill, top margin strip of 5 with "National Bank Note Co., New York" imprint, disturbed o.g. with some gum loss, centered to upper left, fresh, strong grill impressions with right pair showing slight doubling of grill, about Fine, a rare mint multiple.

(Double Transfer) 1867, 2¢ black, E. Grill, Major Double Transfer ("Preston Shift"), position 81R, showing all double transfer characteristics however somewhat less distinct to it's ungrilled counterpart, likely due to ongoing plate wear, neat wavy manuscript cancel, reperforated at left with large nicely balanced margins around, bold color and sharp impression helping to accentuate shift, strong clearly defined grill, Extremely Fine appearance, this being the unique example of the "Preston Shift" major double transfer on the 2¢ Blackjack, E. Grill issue; with 2009 P.F. certificate.
