(Utah) the Deseret News, April 7th and April 14th, 1858 editions of Mormon newspaper published in Salt Lake City, each four pages; some edge splits and tears but all contents present, Fine, a scarce pair of issues from this newspaper which was founded in 1850.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

According to Wikipedia, this was the newspaper for the State of Deseret, which was proposed in 1849 by Latter-day Saint settlers in Salt Lake City as a provisional state of the United States. The Provisional state existed for slightly over two years and was never recognized by the United States government. The name is derived from the word for "honey bee" in the Book of Mormon.

(Washington) Wailepta, W.T., Mar 29, blue forwarding cds on cover addressed to Fort Simcoe, franked with 1861, 10¢ yellow green tied by Hamilton, N.Y. cds, readdressed to Corvallis, Ogn. with manuscript "Misst & Fwd "and "The Dalles, Og., Apr 23/62" postmark; light cover soiling, F.-V.F., an unusual forwarding and missent usage.

(Washington) Walla Walla, W.T., Feb 19, two strikes of straight line postmark tying 1861, 1¢ blue + 3¢ rose, horizontal pair on 1861, 3¢ pink entire to Three Oaks, Mich., stamps applied over Wells, Fargo & Co. black company frank, large stencil corner card on reverse; 1¢ stamp with small flaws and s.e. at left, F.-V.F.

Ebey in the early 1860's, envelope endorsed for the Butterfield Overland Mail but was carried privately probably by a Puget Sound express company; slight cover reduction at right, F.-V.F., one other similar usage is known from the Jarrett collection.
