Laird 3¢ Black on Perforated Old Paper, a great rarity with only 8 examples recorded in the 1934 census and only 3 in the 1994 Aldrich census (of which 2 are reported to be faulty).

Laird, George W., 3¢ Black, Perf'd, Silk Paper, purple manuscript "G.W.L., April 1876" initials and date cancellation, nicely centered, strong bold color, couple small thins, otherwise fresh and Extremely Fine, the Unique Example of the George W. Laird, 3¢ Black Perforated on Silk Paper and one of the few Laird issues bearing a dated cancellation, Ex-Joyce.
Scott No. RT14bp    $4,000.

Prior to the 1991 Joyce sale, this stamp was listed in Scott but unpriced. This unique perfumery issue realized about $3,750 in the Joyce sale and soon thereafter the price was reflected in Scott. The catalog value has only been raised a meager $250 in twenty years!
