1847, 5¢ red brown, large margins, canceled by a bold, centered small Boston "PAID" grid applied post-demonitization over a manuscript cancel, the lightening of which has affected the color of the stamp, otherwise Extremely Fine and unusual.
Scott No. 1    Estimate $300 - 400.

The stamp was quite possibly used previously, prior to demonetization, with the PAID cancel being a fraudulent second use.
