Hawaii, Coronation Ceremony Royal Invitation, 1883, multicolored Royal Arms on Mantle invitation (205x146mm) to Rev. & Mrs. S.E. Bishop, with original royal envelope (hand delivered); invitation with small hole and light cover toning and minor edge erosion on reverse, otherwise Very Fine, a wonderful and rare Royal Invitation, illustrated in Medcalf Hawaiian Royal Stationery and Correspondence Catalog (page 58).
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

On February 12, 1883 one of the most grand and regal events ever witnessed in Hawaii was held at the recently completed Iolani Palace in Honolulu. Nine years to the day after his election as Mo'i, David La'amea Kamanakapu'u Mahinulani Naloiaehuokalani Lumialani Kalakaua was crowned in a majestic coronation ceremony.

Lot 385

Hawaii, Letter, Oahu, Oct 10, 1822, interesting 4-page letter written by E. Loomis with an account the Brig Cassae being captured of the coast of California by a company of Spaniards and her captains attempt to retake the ship…A short time since, Capt D(avis) understanding that she was near the coast, hastened the schooner Eagle with the intention of taking her. Messrs Dix & Rogers, with a small crew were engaged for the purpose, they sailed from this port with high expectation and arrived safely at Monterey after a passage of thirty days. Here, learning that the Cassae was at St. Barbara, about 800 miles distant, they resolved to proceed…mentions crew desertion at Monterey while taking on provisions, catching up to the Cassae and taking her, only to lose their vessel the Eagle to the Spaniards, letter also with chart "State of the Thermometer, at the Mission Establishment, Oahu, Sandwich Islands from July 12, 1821 to the end of July 1822", other news of ships wrecking, etc., Very Fine.
