1841 (May 25) Philadelphia, Pa. to Heath near Halifax, England, folded letter showing blue "Philadelphia May 31" cds and matching "Paid" handstamp with "Double, 50" rating for 2x 12½¢ inland postage plus 2x 12½¢ freight money fee for sailing ship, carried by Black Ball Line South America from New York June 2 to Liverpool arriving June 23, "Liverpool/Ship Letter" and Halifax (6.4) backstamps, manuscript "8" pence due rating for uniform ship rate, Very Fine.

1843 (Mar. 11) Philadelphia, Pa. to London, England, folded letter with blue "Philadelphia Pa. Mat 11" cds with matching "Paid" h.s. and "75" cent triple rating for 3x12½¢=37½¢ freight money fee for a sailing ship plus 3x12½¢=37½¢ inland postage to New York, carried by Black Ball Line Montezuma from New York Mar. 20 to Liverpool arriving Apr. 7, "AP 7 43/Liverpool/Ship" framed h.s. and London (4.8) cds on back, manuscript "8" pence rating for ship fee; light fold wear, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Although endorsed for the sailing ship Sheffield, that vessel was no longer on the route and letter had to await next sailing packet.

1845 (Sep. 17) Philadelphia, Pa. to Schiedam, Holland, folded letter with blue "Philadelphia Pa. Sep 17" cds with matching "Paid" h.s. and blue manuscript "30" cents rating, carried by Great Western from New York Sep. 18 to Liverpool Oct. 3, Liverpool Ship (10.4) and red London (10.6) backstamps with manuscript "1/4" 1s4d debit to Holland (8d incoming ship letter plus 8d postage to Holland), reverse with red "Engeland over Rotterdam" two-line h.s. and Schiedam (10/10) cds, manuscript "100" Dutch Cents due, Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Letter prepaid the 25¢ freight money fee for a steamship plus 5¢ inland fee to New York. Philadelphia always combined both the freight fee and the inland rate into one value. U.K. debit to Holland included 8 pence (40 Dutch Cents) ship rate and 8 pence (40 Dutch Cents) U.K. portion of 1843 Anglo-Dutch Treaty. Dutch added 20 Cents internal fee for a total postage due of 100 Cents.

Jun 7" cds with matching "Paid" h.s. and blue manuscript "30" cents rating, carried by Great Britain from New York Jun. 8 to Liverpool arriving Jun. 22, Liverpool Ship (6.22) backstamp with handstamped "8" pence incoming ship due rating, Wakefield (6.23) and Dewsbury (6.23) backstamps; Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Letter prepaid the 25¢ freight money fee for a steamship plus 5¢ inland fee to New York. Carried on 2nd of 4 return voyages by "Great Britain" before running aground.

Feb 23" cds with matching "Paid" framed h.s. and red crayon "30" combined rating for 25¢ freight money fee plus 5¢ inland postage to N.Y. carried by Red Cross Line Sarah Sands from New York Feb. 24 to Liverpool arriving Mar. 17, framed "Liverpool Ship 17MR1847" h.s. and London (3.18) backstamps, manuscript "8" pence due rating for ship fee, Very Fine, This was a late freight money letter usage and one of only two recorded carried by Red Cross Line Sarah Sands. This was the maiden return voyage of Sarah Sands.
