1850 (Illustrated Letter Sheet) A View of the (Elephant) (Baird 293) panel illustrations in gold on bluish showing various scenes including mining, gambling scene with personal notation "gambling table, Jack wins the money", hand carried/under cover letter to Bangor, Me. datelined "San Francisco, Aug 25th, 1850" with interesting 2-page letter regarding receiving letters…the post office opened today for delivery, and a large crowd assembled at the office to get their letters from their friends. After waiting my turn, which was about one hour…, mentions San Francisco burning down several times, etc.; some edge wear and small tears, F.-V.F. Estimate $750 - 1,000.
