New Orleans U.S. City Post, study of 5 covers; includes "N.O.U.S. City Post" cds on incoming cover with oval Route 7309 handstamp tying 1851, 3¢ dull red, blue & green shovel date stamps on outgoing covers franked with #11 and bearing a red New Orleans cds, incoming cover from Bennington, Vt. with blue shovel date stamp and matching "Car 2" in oval handstamp, and 1852 locally addressed folded letter with green shovel date stamp and matching "Car 1" in oval handstamp; some cover flaws, a Fine group.

Lot 1557    

Baltimore, Md., 1850-55, 1¢ Red on Bluish, left sheet margin copy, full margins, touched at top, tied by blue "1" in circle drop-letter rating handstamp on light blue folded drop cover addressed to Thomas Swann Esqr. in Baltimore; stamp small abrasion and split due to file fold, reaffixed askew, Very Fine appearance, A very rare example of carrier stamp tied by drop-rate marking.
Scott No. 1LB1    $1,000+.

The Golden sale contained two covers with 1LB1 tied by the drop letter "1" in circle handstamp in black, this is the only example we have seen with the strike in blue.

Boyd's Brooklyn City Express Post, red date stamp on 1845 folded letter sheet from New York to Brooklyn; cover with some fold splitting and separation, F.-V.F., a scarce short-lived service.

City Dispatch, Philadelphia, Pa., 1860, 1¢ Black, single on two small covers, one from stone 1 and other from stone 2, both canceled by circled grid of X's, the later tied and cover with opening tears, F.-V.F.

Pleasant, O., front franked with 1861, 3¢ rose canceled by circle of wedges cancels, matching "Street Road, Pa., May 18" cds, with original 1868 enclosures including a circular of a speech on "the Moral Improvement and Education of the Colored People", Very Fine.
