Purse & Co. ad below, on cover to Grahamville, S.C., franked with 1861, 5¢ green tied by Georgia cds; cover with expertly repaired corner tear at top left, certificate mention portion of the design painted in which we find no evidence of, Very Fine appearance, a very rare usage of a Patriotic design in combination with printed Advertising; with 2008 P.F. certificate.

Confederacy, 7-Star Flag, full color patriotic design on cover with purple handstamped "Geo. A. Oates, Antiquarian Book Store and Art Gallery, Augusta Ga." over part of design, bearing 1890, 2¢ carmine tied by Augusta May 24 duplex to New York City, New York (5.25) arrival backstamp; flap tear, F.-V.F., an unusual late use of an unlisted Confederate Flag patriotic design.

Confederacy, 7-Star and Bars Flag, full color all-over design with embossed stars on rebacked cover front bearing 1857, 3¢ dull red, s.e. at right and a pulled perf, tied by "Memphis Ten., May 15, 1861" cds to Georgetown S.C., C.S. (Confederate States), Fine, A very rare use of U.S. postage on CSA 7-Star patriotic from Confederate Tennessee. Scott No. U.S. #26.
C.S.A. No. F7-2B    Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

This cover front is postmarked within the last two weeks of the use of U.S. postal issues. The Confederate Postal Service took over operation of the mails in the South on June 1, 1861.

Confederacy, 11-Star Flag With "Suberta Rifles, Fortune Favors the Brave", full color patriotic design with slogan no. 68, manuscript "Red Bridge Tenn., Jan 1st, 1862" postmark and pencil "Pd 5" rating to Miss E.D. Dickson in Salem, N.C., rough opening at right, accompanied by Cannon with 11-Star Flag (CN-1B) patriotic lettersheet datelined "Mooresburg Dec 30th" and with brief letter "We have not had any news for a good while from the seat of war. It is thought that the most fighting done this winter will be at Bowling Green…", F.-V.F., A very rare patriotic design with patriotic enclosure.

Red Bridge was also known as Mooresburg, Tenn. and is unlisted in the new CSA catalog. This is the only recorded example of this postmark. William Dickson was the postmaster here prior to the Civil War and is writing to his sister.

Confederacy, 11-Star Waving Flag With Two Tassels, full color design with embossed 10-stars arranged in circle and large one at center, on all-over shaded advertising cover for Charles W. Smith Bookseller in Nashville, Tenn., addressed to W.C. Pullen in Famington Ky., bearing uncancelled 1857, 3¢ dull red, small faults, Fine, This unlisted patriotic design is possibly unique.

Confederacy, Jefferson Davis Medallion With 11-Star Flags, patriotic design in purple and blue on cover front bearing 1863, 10¢ blue "Framelines", showing two full framelines at left and bottom, slightly in at top, tied by "Mobile, Jun 23, 1863" double-circle datestamp to Louisville, Miss., F.-V.F. Scott No. 10 $10,000 on patriotic cover.

AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE USE OF THE 1863 10¢ "FRAME LINE" ON A PATRIOTIC COVER.

Wishnietsky noted on page 120 of his Confederate Patriotic book that the purple with blue medallion was an extremely rare color combination.

Confederacy, Jefferson Davis Medallion With Tenn. Flag Lettersheet, patriotic design in red with verse no. 31, entered mails with manuscript "Mooresburg, Nov 29" postmark and matching "Pd 5" rating at upper right to Miss E.D. Dickson in Salem, N.C., stain affects Davis and some paper loss affects rating, with original full color Tenn. 11-Star Flag design (F11-8) lettersheet datelined Nov. 28 with some interesting content, "You must remember that it is all together owing to the mails, I wrote to you in my last about the mail-road bridges being burned and other damages being done on the roads, by the Lincolnites that has caused a great deal of detention in the mails, and also in the travel. They are now rebuilding the bridges and repairing the roads.", he mentions fleeing to North Carolina but the danger seems to have passed, Fine and rare patriotic cover and enclosure.
