(Usages) 3¢ Orange Brown, Type I, clear margins, cancelled by New York magenta manuscript on 1851 Aug. 19 blue folded cover from New York, N.Y. to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Halifax (8.22) backstamp and black "5" pence due rating; vertical file fold and stamp defect, Fine, an unusual New York City use of magenta canceling ink that was normally used for exchange credit accounting.

1851, 3¢ Orange Brown, Type II, block of six, positions 9-10/19-20/29-30R2e, beautiful deep reddish shade, margins to cutting including sheet margins at top and right, cancelled by multiple strikes of red "New York Nov 22" cds and additional bold strike of French entry Dec. 6 cds, Fine and attractive.

A very rare orange brown used block from Plate 2 early, which was only used in the latter half of 1851.
