1839 (Feb. 21) Baltimore, Md. to London, England, folded cover showing red "Baltimore Md. Feb 21" cds and matching "Paid" h.s. with "Ship 25" and "18¾" ratings for 25¢ steamship freight money fee plus 18¾¢ inland fee to N.Y. red "New-York Feb 22" cds, carried by Great Western on 6th return from New York Feb. 25 to Bristol arriving Mar. 12, "Bristol/Ship Letter" framed h.s. and manuscript "1/5" due 1s5d rating for 8d ship fee plus 9d inland postage, Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Postage due consisted of 8d incoming ship fee plus 9d inland fee from Bristol to London (distance just under 120 miles). Early freight money covers from Baltimore show manuscript "Ship" alongside the freight money rate marking.

1839 (Nov. 8) Dunnville, Upper Canada to Melchbourne, England, folded letter with "Dunnville U.C." double-circle postmark with red manuscript "8 Nov, 1839" dating, matching "Paid 4½, Paid 25¢, Packet Paid 25¢" rating for 4½d Canadian postage, 25¢ U.S. postage to N.Y. and 25¢ steamship freight money fee, "Leighton-Buzzard DE 1 1839" rimless cds with red manuscript "Missent to" rating, carried by Great Western on 11th return from New York Nov. 16 to Bristol arriving Nov. 30, "Bristol/Ship Letter" h.s. with manuscript "1/7" due 1s7d rating for 8d ship fee and 11d inland postage, some edgewear, Fine, Only three freight money covers from Dunnville are recorded.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Letter sent in error to Leighton-Buzzard, then to Melchbourne. It was handled in England just four days before 4d uniform British internal fee went into effect, which would have made posted due just 12d.

Jul 23 1840" rimless cds, matching "Paid" h.s. and red manuscript "9d, 25 + 25 Cts" rating for 9dcy Canadian inland, 25¢ U.S. postage and 25¢ steamship freight money fee, carried by British & American Steam Nav. Co. British Queen on 6th return from New York Aug. 1 to Portsmouth arriving Aug. 15, "Ship Letter London 15 AU 1850" crown backstamp, manuscript "8" pence due rating for ship fee, Very Fine, Only recorded freight money letter from St. Thomas, Canada.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Oct 6" cds and matching "Paid" h.s. with magenta "18¾" and "25" ratings for 18¾¢ inland postage and 25¢ steamship freight money fee, carried by British Queen under Belgian flag from New York on 3rd return from New York Oct. 7 to Portsmouth arriving Nov. 3, red London (11.3) cds and "Ship Letter" backstamps, large manuscript "8" pence due rating for ship fee, Very Fine, one of only two known British Queen freight money letters carried under Belgian flag.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Oct 3" cds and matching "Paid" h.s. with red manuscript "37½" rating for 12½¢ inland postage plus the 25¢ freight money fee, carried as endorsed by Great Western from New York to Bristol, "Liverpool Ship" backstamp and matching "8" pence due rating, Very Fine.

Jan 3" cds and matching "Paid" handstamp with blue manuscript "12½" and "25" ratings for 12½¢ freight money fee by sailing ship plus 25¢ inland postage to New York, reverse with Liverpool Ship (2.8) framed postmark and red London (2.10) arrival cds, manuscript "8" pence due rating; light fold soiling, F.-V.F., A scarce freight money letter by sailing packet. ex-Littauer.
