Confederacy, Tallahassee, Fla Dec 20, partial cds with sharp bold strike of "Paid 10" rating handstamp (Type II) on cover addressed to Mrs. O. L. Stephens, Thomasville, Geo.; some flap tears and stains on the back only., Very Fine.
Estimate    $100 - 150.

The addressee (Octavia L. Stephens) was the wife of Capt Winston J. T. Stephens of the 2nd Fla Cav. Capt Stephens was killed at Cedar Creek (Jacksonville, Fla) on March 1, 1864.

Confederacy, Tallahassee, Fla Dec 21, usual partial strike of cds with matching "Paid 10" handstamp on cover with military address to Mr. W. A. Bryant Care Maj Routh, Lake City, Fla.; light soiling and edge wear, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $100 - 150.

William A. Bryant enlisted 5/1/1861 as a Private in Co A 3rd Fla Inf. During the course of his service, he was detailed several times to the Quartermaster's Department. Major Horatio S. Routh was the Quartermaster Officer on the staff of CSA Brig-Gen John K. Jackson who at this time was in command of the Department of Florida. Private Bryant surrendered at Lake City on May 18, 1865.

Confederacy, Warrington Fla. Sep, cds with matching "Paid" and circled "5" handstamps (Type IA), manuscript "pd 5 W. S. C." at the top right which are the initials of the sender (William S. Chapman), from the known Chapman correspondence addressed to Mrs. Kate L. Chapman, Talladega, Ala from her husband Lieut William S. Chapman of Co D 1st Ala Inf which was organized in Pensacola in April 1861. Lieut Chapman had later service as Capt of Co G 31st Ala Inf and did survive the war; Cover very slightly reduced at the top and part of the backflap missing, otherwise Very Fine.

Confederacy, "Jackson, May 29" (Ga.), manuscript postmark ties 1861, 5¢ green, four margins, stain at bottom, on orange cover with military address to Col. D. J. Bailey at Box 500 in Savannah Ga., F.-V.F.
Scott No. 1    Estimate $150 - 200.

David J. Baily enlisted in the 30th Georgia Infantry on October 7, 1861. He was a Georgia Congressman and in September 1861 he established Camp Bailey with the permission of Governor Joseph E. Brown. Camp Bailey was located between Fairburn and Palmetto, Ga. along the railroad track. This company became known as Company K, the "Chattahoochee Volunteers".

Kirk at Charleston S.C.; some light docketing, reduced slightly at right, F.-V.F., illustrated on page 61 of Bush's Fancy and Unusual Cancel book., ex-Bush.

Willis at Crystal Springs Miss., endorsed "Written by A. B. Willis, Adjutant 6th Miss. Regt.", Memphis "Due/10" transit handstamp; faults, Fine; with 1981 P.F. certificate.

Vols. who were in Port Hudson La. around April 1863, second use addressed to Dr. J.M. McKinney at Greensburg La., Very Fine and unusual use.
