Confederacy, Charleston, S.C./Mar. 5, 1862, double circle postmark with matching handstamped "PAID 5" in circle on cover to Surg[eo]n Wm Wylie, 17th Regt S.C.V., John's Island, So Ca; reduced top and bottom and a bit edge worn but nice markings, manuscript "On Official Business" at top left, stain at center, Fine, Detailed bio included from the unpublished biographical register of physicians who served the Confederacy in a medical capacity. (no photo).

Confederacy, Gourdins, S.C., Sept 27, manuscript postmark with matching pen strokes on 1863 10¢ blue, on yellow cover addressed to Caven's Old Field Post, Spartanburg County, S.C.; flap tears and edge wear, F.-V.F.
Scott No. 12    Estimate $100 - 150.

Gourdins was a station on the North East Railroad in Williamsburg District. The post office there was discontinued by the U.S. in 1860 and the Confederate Post Office re-established it in 1863. This is the only recorded cover and the listing cover.
