Wells Fargo & Co., New York, partial blue circular date stamp on 3¢ pink entire addressed to Col. Julian McAllister at the Benicia Arsenal, black company frank and two strike of blue "Collect" in oval handstamp with manuscript "3" in blue crayon, Very Fine, a scarce east to west "Collect" express usage.

Wells Fargo & Co., New York, California and European Express, 82 Broadway, blue embossed shield corner card on locally addressed to Allen Latham at Howard House, manuscript "D.N. Barry, president of this Co." endorsement at top; horizontal fold, otherwise Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Besides serving as president and a director of Wells Fargo, Barney was also a director of John Butterfield's Overland Mail Company, organized in 1857 to provide government mail coach service from Tipton, Missouri, to San Francisco, California, by way of El Paso, Texas, and Yuma, Arizona.

Mont. & Myers St./ Oroville" on backflap, Extremely Fine and choice, a marvelous example of the Wells, Fargo & Co. Oroville straight line handstamp, ex Knapp, Jarrett.

Wells Fargo & Co., Oroville, Sep 14, blue oval date stamp on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to Philadelphia, Pa., additional blue "Wells Fargo & Co., San Francisco" oval date stamp and negative cross cancel, with circular M.M. Marple oval address label affixed over original address; reduced at right slightly into indicia, otherwise Very Fine, an unusual transcontinental usage.

Red Frank on Freeman Express Frank, two Wells, Fargo & Co. red franks (one at left and the other on a green ribbon frank "Paid, Freeman & Co's, over Our California & Coast Route., Express") on 1855, 10¢ Nesbitt entire with "Wells, Fargo & Co. Express, San Francisco" blue double circle handstamp (Leutzinger type 11-4) to New York, 1861 docketing at bottom, Very Fine and attractive, ex Metkin.

This is one of two usages of the "Over Our California And Coast Routes." printed in red and of both the "Over Our California And Coast Routes."and "Through Our California and Atlantic Express" on the same cover.
