Am. Pkt. 'Paid' Apr 2" exchange cds and red "21" handstamp to reiterate rate, Very Fine, Carried on the maiden voyage of Inman Line City of Paris.

Under the Franco-Swiss Convention of 1 October 1865, the prepaid rate for letters sent from Switzerland to the Brazil, Denmark, the United States, and the Sandwich Islands, via France, was established at 1Fl0c per 7½ grams. This amount paid all postal charges to destination. For accounting purposes, the French Post Office received a 1F per 7½ grams fee for its portion of the postal services provided on such mail.

Circular prepaid to destination in Bremen. Large "½" handstamp of New York, known in red and in black, applied as a result of late 1866/early 1867 negotiations with the Germans that established printed matter rates beyond the GAPU and set U.S. credits per item (recent research by Heinrich Conzelmann).
