Confederacy, Lenoir, N.C., 1861, 5¢ blue & orange, ample margins to just shaving frame line, tied by blue circular "Paid" handstamp on 1862 cover to Salem, N.C., with matching "Lenoir N.C., Apr 12" cds alongside; small insignificant restored spot in address panel, still Very Fine, with only six recorded examples of the Lenoir Provisional tied by a handstamp cancellation, ex-Emerson, Caspary, Haas and Gross.

ONE OF TWO RECORDED LENOIR PROVISIONAL ADHESIVES TIED BY THE CIRCULAR "PAID" HANDSTAMP.

This cover is accompanied by a second cover from the same correspondence mailed a month later bearing a regular issue 1862 5¢ blue (Scott 4) tied by the same "Paid" in circle handstamp. Neither of these usage show any rate within the stamp.
