Panama, Colombia 1892, Registration, 10c yellow brown on light buff, blue "2737" handstamp, used with Colombia A.R. 5c vermilion (H2) and Panama 1892 5c blue pair (17), later tied by "Panama, 2 May 1897" duplex on blue cover to Melbourne, Australia, endorsed "Via New York and England", New York (5.12) transit backstamp and New York Registry exchange label, London (5.21) transit cds, Melbourne (6.24) cds, red Melbourne (1.5.97) dead letter office backstamp and later framed "Unclaimed" handstamp, cover returned with Bogota (5.1.97) and Panama (5.18.97) cds; top 5c with surface fault, Very Fine and rare destination, an unusual around the world registered A.R. use returned after over one year.

THE EARLIEST OF ONLY A FEW RECORDED MARCH 1900 PROVISIONAL "R" REGISTRATION STAMPS USED ON COVER.

The supply of Columbian registration stamps was exhausted in March and resupply was impossible due to the Civil War. While a provisional registration stamp was being printed, a stock of the current 10c stamps were handstamped in red and black with a large "R". These are known used from March 14th to March 17th.
