A WONDERFUL 1857 5¢ KAMEHAMEHA AND U.S. 1851 12¢ WASHINGTON ISSUE COMBINATION FRANKING COVER.

Carried on the American bark "Yankee", departing Honolulu on October 27th and arriving in San Francisco on November 12th. It was then sent overland on the Butterfield stage, departing San Francisco on November 16th.

AN EXCEPTIONAL ON COVER EXAMPLE OF THE 1863 2¢ NUMERAL ON GRAYISH PAPER TIED BY THE HILO "COLLECTORS OFFICE" HANDSTAMP.

Levi Haalelea was the son of Ha'alou, governor of Molokai under Kalaimoku. His mother was Kaipa (Kipa). Upon his marriage to Princess Kekauonohi (granddaughter of Kamehameha I) about 1848, perhaps, he was elevated to chief.
