Alpha, Ariz., Jan 22, 1898 (Maricopa), clear cds (Meyer 1, rarity 7) on 1887, 2¢ green entire to Tempe, target canceled, with partial Sentinel transit and receiving backstamps; edge flaws, F.-V.F., this is the earliest of only two known postmarks from Alpha.

Arizola, Ariz, Jan 22, 1901 (Pinal), deep purple cds (Meyer 3, rarity 7) on cover to San Diego, Cal., franked with 2¢ Bureau tied by matching target handstamp, receiving backstamp; few sealed opening tears at top edge, otherwise Very Fine, the Only Recorded Example of This Townmark From Arizola.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Arizola was a station and farming community on S. P. R. R. 26 miles east of Maricopa, Established in 1892 by a man named Thomas from Carthage, Mo. His daughter's name was Ola and he named the town from part of Arizona and her name.

Ash Fork, Ariz., Feb 12, 1886 (Yavapai), clear strike of cds (Meyer 2, rarity 5) on registered 1884, 2¢ brown entire to New London, N.H., uprated 1¢ Banknote, horizontal pair and strip of three all canceled by cork handstamp, manuscript registry number, Very Fine, an attractive registry usage from Ash Fork, the earliest of five recorded postmarks.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Station and division point on A. T. & S. F. R. R. For many years stages for Prescott started from here. In Jan. 1892, the Prescott-Phoenix branch began building south from Ash Fork. Named by F. W. Smith, General Superintendent of old Atlantic and Pacific R. R. in 1882, because of ash trees on the town site. P. O. established April 2, 1883, Henry W. Kline, P.M.
