Mar 5 1884, cds duplex with split cork cancel that ties 1¢ blue (206), 2¢ red brown (210) and 5¢ brown (205) strip of three on 2¢ entire to Colchester, England, New York Registry (3.11) transit backstamp and registry label affixed, red London registered transit; tiny corner mend, backflap torn, otherwise Very Fine, an attractive four-color franking for double the 5¢ UPU rate plus 10¢ registry fee.Estimate $400 - 600.
This is believed to be the earliest Texas registered cover to a foreign destination to receive a New York exchange label. New York began using exchange labels on Jan. 1st 1883. The sender, Thomas W. Wagner was a leading merchant and property owner in Columbus Tex.

This was the first year of operation for this small post office. It was addressed to Angeline Menefee, the wife of John Menefee who was the first postmaster of Texana Tex. in 1837. Texana was previously named Santa Anna for the Dictator of Mexico.
