New York, N.Y., 1845, 5¢ black on bluish, signed A.C.M., ample to large margins, blue pen canceled on 1845 folded letter to Philadelphia, Pa., red "New York, 5cts, Nov 6" cds and matching arched "Paid" handstamp, Very Fine, ex Seybold (with handstamp on reverse); with 2012 P.F. certificate.

New York, N.Y., 1845, 5¢ black on blue, "ACM" initials, position 17, deeply blued paper, margins large to just touching at lower right, tied by red square grid handstamps on 1847 folded letter sheet to Norwich, Ct., matching "New York, 5cts, Mar 20" cds and arched "Paid" handstamp; horizontal file fold affecting stamp, F.-V.F. appearance, still a rare on cover usage of the New York Postmaster's Provisional 5¢ on Blue Paper, ex Consul Klep; with 2006 P.F. certificate.

St. Louis, Mo., 1845, 5¢ black on greenish, type I, position 1, ample to mostly large margins, ample at left, bright color, small preprinting paper fold at left, canceled by pen stroke cancels and tied by bold red straight line "Paid" handstamp on 1845 folded letter to William Pettus in St. Charles, Mo., matching "St. Louis Mo., Dec. 21" cds at left, manuscript "5" rating; vertical file fold well away from stamp and postmarks, Very Fine, ex Faiman.

A CHOICE AND RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 5¢ ST. LOUIS PROVISIONAL ON GREENISH PAPER TIED ON COVER BY THE STRAIGHT LINE "PAID" HANDSTAMP.

Most examples of the St. Louis Bear Provisionals are either tied by manuscript or by the circular townmark. A rare single usage of the 5¢ value paying the 5¢ under 300 miles rate. This 5¢ single usage is considerably rarer than two 5¢ or a 10¢ on cover.

St. Louis, Mo., 1845, 10¢ black on greenish, large margins all around, sharp detailed impression on bright greenish paper, on 1846 folded letter to Lexington, Ky. tied by manuscript "X" cancel and initialed J. H. W. by Postmaster John H. Wimer, additionally tied by red "St. Louis, Mo., Feb 10" cds with matching straight line "Paid" handstamp and manuscript "10" rate below, Extremely Fine, ex Weill.
