1869, 1¢ buff, tied by "Columbus O Apr 29" cds duplexed with fancy cork cancel on Executive Department Department of Ohio illustrated shaded envelope to local address, with original 1871 appointment for Theodore G. Wormley as Inspector of Gas Meters and Illuminating, signed by "R.B. Hayes" as Governor, he would be elected President of the United States in 1876; cover reduced slightly at right barely affecting 1¢, otherwise Very Fine.

May 2" cds and receiving backstamps, red "New York '12' May 5" integral exchange cds, Callao (6.19) arrival backstamp; internal cover tear, 10¢ affected from edge placement, Very Fine.

1869, 3¢ ultramarine, strip of five, cancelled by corks on 3¢ brown (U60) legal size entire to Galveston Tex. prepaying the 3¢ letter rate plus 15¢ registry, "Columbus Tex. Mar 16" cds; reduced at right, small edge flaws, F.-V.F.

Other 3¢ 1869 registered covers with large multiples include a block of six and another with strip of six prepaying the 15¢ registry fee plus 3¢ letter rate. This is the only recorded example of a block or strip of five prepaying the 15¢ registry fee on an entire.

1869, 10¢ yellow, horizontal pair, rich colors, tied by "San Francisco, Cal., Nov 18" cds and quartered cork duplexes on incoming cover to Hartford, Ct., with magenta "China and Japan Steam Service" oval handstamp at left, reverse with pencil docketing "'C" Written at sea. 3260 miles. Sept. 18, Rec'd Nov. 25, 1870. two days after this he rec'd my 1st dispatch…", Very Fine; with 2011 P.F. certificate.

A RARE DOUBLE RATE COVER FROM JAPAN BEARING THE CHINA AND JAPAN STEAM SERVICE OVAL HANDSTAMP.

This cover was carried aboard the Pacific Mail Steamship Co. "China", which left Hong Kong October 12th, Yokohama on October 23rd, and arriving in San Francisco on November 17, 1870.
