(Route 8006) Steamer Louise, blue oval handstamp on 3¢ pink (U58) entire with L. Brewer & Co. Grocers printed card to New Orleans La., entered mails with "New Orleans La. Jun 11" duplex; top right corner tear, otherwise Very Fine.
Milgram No. 814    Estimate $150 - 200.

The New Orleans to Mobile route was used to carry the Great Southern Mails as well as service the offices on the Mississippi Sound.

Lot 4164    

(Route 8151) Sea Shore Line Steamer Camelia, oval handstamp on 3¢ pink entire (U58) backstamped "Hugh Allison & Co. of New Orleans addressed to Bay St. Louis, Miss., carried on Route 8151 to Shieldsboro entering the mails with "Shieldsboro Miss. Jun 30" cds; light toning, F.-V.F.
Milgram No. 168    Estimate $200 - 300.

From 1850 contracts provided a service between New Orleans and Mobile calling at offices on the Mississippi Sound. In August 1865, Charles Morgan contracted for Route 8151 for a daily service each way at $15,000 a year. The contract was renewed as Route 8009 from July 1866 to June 1867.

(Route 8151) Steamer Creole, circular handstamp on 3¢ pink entire (U58) to Handsboro Miss that was located 9 miles west of Biloxi, carried outside the mails and therefore probably landed at Handsboro., Very Fine.

(Route 8151) Steamer Creole, circular handstamp on orange cover with blue "Woodruff & Blocher, Little Rock, Ark., May 8 1866" company handstamp and addressed to E. Pascagoula Miss., entered mails with 3¢ rose (65), huge margins with s.e. at right, tied by "Little Rock Ark, May 8 '66" duplex and bagged for New Orleans carried there on the Arkansas and Mississippi Rivers, transferred to Route 8151 for passage on the Creole to Pascagoula; no flap and reduced a bit at top slightly affecting 3¢, otherwise Very Fine, Illustrated in Milgram on page 212.
