From Noisy Carriers. Mail., 77 Long Wharf S.F. Cal., full bold fancy box handstamp on buff cover addressed to Strong Me. bearing 3¢ dull red (11A) horizontal pair, tied by "Sacramento City Cal. 12 Apr" cds, manuscript "Due 4" rating, carried on the Golden Age leaving San Francisco April 17th but transferred to the John L. Stephens when the Golden Age struck a reef off Jicaron Island, arrived at Panama on May 2nd, then carried by George Law leaving Aspinwall on May 15th and arriving into New York May 24th; bottom corner wear, Very Fine and choice strike.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Noisy Carriers acted as a forwarder in San Francisco and sent mails to the east by both the Panama and Nicaragua routes. The proprietor, Charles P. Kimball (1821-1894) was active during the period of the rate change for over 3,000 miles from 6¢ to 10¢ on April 1st 1855.

From Noisy Carriers. Mail., 77 Long Wharf S.F. Cal., perfect bold strike of fancy box handstamp in green on small 1855 cover addressed to Freeport Me. bearing 10¢ green, type III (15), four margins, tied by bold "San Francisco Cal 5 Sep" cds, carried on day of posting by the Oregon to Panama arriving Sep. 21st, transferred to the George Law leaving Aspinwall on Sep. 23rd and arriving into New York Oct. 2nd, docketed "Sept. 1855"; some slight staining, Very Fine; with 1986 P.F. certificate.
Estimate    $1,500 - 2,000.

The 55 mile Panama Rail Road had been completed in January 1855 reducing the transit time to a day.
