Wells Fargo & Co. (Victoria), black company frank on 1861, 10¢ green rebacked front to London, England, franked with B.C. & V.I. 1865, 5c rose tied by blue "Post Office Victoria V.I." Coat of Arms oval handstamp, additionally franked with 1861-63, 2¢ black + 12¢ black tied by fancy grid cancels, red New York transit cds; front affixed to backing with portions of cancel at top right drawn in, F.-V.F. appearance; with 2014 V.G. Greene certificate.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

The treaty rate from the U.S. to England was reduced to 12¢, effective January 1, 1868, and again reduced to 6¢, effective January 1, 1870. This usage is a double 12¢ U.S. rate with B.C. & V.I. 5c prepaying the internal postage.

Estimate    $300 - 400.

Silver Park was a short-lived mining town located in Nevada's Nye County. Wells Fargo briefly maintained an office there in 1870-1871 with H. M. Barnes as agent. There are two recorded examples of the Wells, Fargo & Co. Silver Park datestamp, this cover and the legal size faulty example offered in our Sale 41 as lot 825.
