(Kansas) Leavenworth City, K.T., circular date stamp postmarks on three covers; 1857 cover with serifed letters postmark tying 1857, 3¢ dull, san-serifed 1858 year date postmark tying 1857, 3¢ dull red and similar san-serifed postmark without year date on 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Illinois, all fresh covers and choice postmark strikes, Very Fine and choice.

(Kentucky) Augusta, Ky., July 5th, bold sharp strike of two-line postmark with manuscript date, on 1832 folded letter to Lebanon, O., manuscript "12½" rate, forwarded to Columbus with "Cincinnati, O., Jul 7" cds and manuscript "Paid" and underlining original rate, Extremely Fine, a choice strike of this scarce straight line postmark; with 2010 P.F. certificate.

(Kentucky) Western Military Institute, Drennon Springs Ky., two covers with corner card of Western Military Institute, first with 3¢ dull red (11A) tied by "Drennon Ky. Oct 25" cds to Rahway N.J., second stampless with "Drennon Ky. Nov 19" cds and matching "5" in circle due handstamp, to West Point N.Y.; minor edge wear, Very Fine.

Lot 303    

(Louisiana) N Le. Orleáns Ce 26 Sbre. 1787, dateline on folded letter to Philadelphia, Pa., privately carried to New York where it entered the mails with light "New York Apr 20" straight line Colonial postmark and manuscript "1.8" rate, Very Fine, an extremely early west of the Mississippi letter.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

This letter was written sixteen years before the Louisiana Purchase, during the rule of Spanish Governor Estaban Miro, and several years before the first Spanish postal markings appeared in New Orleans. The Spanish census of 1788 showed that less than 19,500 people were living in all the lands west of the Mississippi river.

"B", manuscript postmark with "1/2" rating one shilling two pence old tenor on 1744 folded letter from the Vernon correspondence to Newport R.I., Very Fine.

The sender William Molineux was an American merchant best known for his role in the Boston Tea Party of 1773. A member of the Sons of Liberty, he organized the Tea Party along with Samuel Adams and served as the group's spokesman during protests.
