Madison" free frank as Presidential Widow on 1841 folded letter to Frankfort Ky., partial red "Orange C.H., Va. Oct 21" cds, original letter from William Washington; some edge tears, docketing on face, F.-V.F.

Anna Harrison, 1775-1864, Wife of William Henry Harrison, 9th President of the U.S. Manuscript "Free, Anna Harrison" free frank as Presidential Widow on folded cover addressed in her hand to George Mendenhall in Cleveland Oh., red "Cleves, O, Jue 3" straightline with blue manuscript day, Very Fine.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

A CHOICE EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE SCARCEST PRESIDENTIAL WIDOW FREE FRANKS.

Anna Harrison was widowed on April 4, 1841 and was granted free franking privilege September 9th. Although she had the free franking privilege for over 23 years until her death in 1864, it is still one of the scarcest widow free franks.

Francis F. Cleveland, 1864-1947, Wife of Grover Cleveland, 22nd and 24th President of the U.S. Free frank "Francis F. Cleveland" on 1909 mourning cover to New York, "Princeton N.J. Mar 12 1909" machine cancel; second with manuscript "Francis F. Cleveland Preston" free frank on cover to Mantoloking N.J., "Tamworth N.H. Aug 9 1926" duplex, a Very Fine pair of both signature types.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Francis was married to Grover Cleveland at the White House on June 2, 1886, when she was 21 years old and they had five children. She remains the youngest first lady in history. After her husband President Cleveland died in 1908, she remarried on Feb. 10th 1913 to Professor Thomas Joseph Preston and franking privileges continued with the addition of "Preston" to her signature.

Edith Bolling Wilson, 1872-1961, Wife of Woodrow Wilson, 28th President of the U.S. Manuscript "Edith Bolling Wilson" free frank as Presidential Widow on mourning cover to Rutherford N.J., "Washington D.C. Mar. 12, 1924" machine cancel, this would of had a matching enclosure thanking for condolences, Very Fine, her franking privilege took effect on Mar. 4 and this was used only eight days later (no photo).
Estimate    $100 - 150.

Her autographed letters are quite scarce, since after 15 days she continuously franked by means of a facsimile die of her signature.
