Pacific Express Co., Auburn, Sep 2, oval date stamp (PAC-102) on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Nevada City, with Horse & Rider Illustrated Blue Frank at top left (PAC-005); small tear at top center not affecting handstamp or frank, Very Fine, a very rare blue frank usage, with only two known examples of this Auburn handstamp.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

A number of expresses has blue colored franks that saw limited usage. Their function is still not fully understood by students.

Pacific Express Co., Diamond Springs, blue oval handstamp (PAC-108) on stampless cover addressed to Folsom, F.-V.F., very rare with only two examples known of the Diamond Springs handstamp.

Pacific Express Co., Sacramento, blue oval handstamp (PAC-108) on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire (U2 with backflap seal) to San Francisco, Very Fine, a very scarce early handstamp from Sacramento, with all six examples found on unfranked entires.

Pacific Express Co., San Francisco, Jul 14, full clear blue circular date stamp (PAC-101) on partially printed lodge address cover to Yuba City, matching "Collect" in oval handstamp, Very Fine and choice, the only example of this Collect handstamp known.

Pacific Express Co., Stockton, blue double oval handstamp with "Paid" in center used as a frank, alongside clear blue dated handstamp on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire to San Francisco, Stockton merchant handstamp on backflap; bit reduced at top, Very Fine, a scarce provisional handstamp frank usage.

Pacific Express Co., Stockton, blue oval and matching "Paid" handstamps on 1855 cover to New York City, blue "Pacific Express Co., California, No. 124 Broadway, N-Y" oval handstamp, 10¢ trans-continental rate prepaid on reverse with seven 1851, 1¢ blue singles, and one 1852, 3¢ dull red, rich colors and uncancelled as this was carried completely outside the U.S. mails, black partial Boyds Express company oval datestamp and matching "Paid / J.T.B." handstamp; couple cover tears and wear, one 1¢ torn in half, Fine, An unusual Pacific Express and Boyds conjunctive use.

Earl, Forwarding and Commission House ad, with notation "1,000, Fill this order as soon as possible…cashier" order for entire reorder, Very Fine, despite the reorder, this is the only example of this shaded ad to survive.
