1860s (Nov. 25) New York, N.Y. to Bordeaux, France, homemade wrapper bearing 1¢ blue (63 var.) vertical pair showing dot-in-u (plate 9) variety, tied by "New-York Paid Nov 25" cds, prepaid at the 2¢ newspaper rate, large red "30" centimes for a newspaper weighing between 40 and 80 grams; small stamp flaws, Very Fine and scarce franking for this rate normally prepaid by the 2¢ value, Illustrated in Evans as fig. 12-26 on page 228., ex-Lee; with clear 1983 P.F. certificate.

1862 (c., May 7) North Ridge, N.Y. to London, England, patriotic Standing Liberty & Flag red, white and blue patriotic design on cover that has been cut and used as a wrapper, bearing two 1¢ blue (63) singles tied by "North Ridge N.Y. May 7" cds prepaying the 2¢ newspaper rate, Great Britain large "1d" due rating handstamp; bottom stamp torn, otherwise Very Fine, ex-Blake Myers; with 1977 P.F. certificate.

1863 (c., Feb. 20) Trenton, N.J. To Bavaria, Germany, blue newspaper wrapper bearing two 1¢ blue (63) well centered singles, small flaws, tied two strikes of indistinct Trenton N.J. cds, the 3¢ paid all rate was underpaid, endorsed "Via Hamburg to Germania", possibly carried by Hapag Line Borussia from New York Feb. 21st to Hamburg Mar. 11th, blue manuscript "6" kreuzer due rating, reverse with Kempten (3.16) and Illertissen (3.17) arrival postmarks, remnants of a German newspaper stuck to the back of the wrapper, F.-V.F., Illustrated in Evans as fig. 12-27 on page 229., ex-Lee.

1863 (Mar. 14) New York, N.Y. to Bremen, Germany, orange buff newspaper wrapper bearing 1¢ blue (63) horizontal pair tied by bold circled star (similar Skinner-Eno ST-S 23) duplexed with light "New-York Mar 14" cds, prepaid at the 2¢ 1853 U.S.-Bremen postal treaty rate for newspapers up to 3 oz. each, New York red "Paid All" handstamp to show fully paid to Bremen, carried as endorsed by NGL Line New York from New York Mar. 14th to Bremerhaven arriving Mar. 28th, Bremen blue "America, Uber Bremen, France" three-line handstamp, Very Fine, ex-Cipolla.

Jul 25 1863" cds, endorsed "Via Hamburg to Germania" at top, New York red "Short Paid" framed handstamp for 1¢ short payment of the 3¢ paid all rate, carried by Hapag Line Borussia from New York Jul. 25th to Hamburg arriving Aug. 8th, blue manuscript "12" kreuzer due rating, reverse with Kempten (8.11), Altenstadt (8.12) and Illertissen (8.12) postmarks; refolded at left.
