(Demonetized) Eagle and Flags, red white and blue patriotic design with Lloyd imprint on cover to Wampsville N.Y., bearing 1¢ blue (24) vertical pair, bottom stamp torn, and 1¢ blue (63), all tied by matching circular grids, matching "Cortland Village N.Y. Sep 11, 1861" cds; reduced at right with small mend at lower right corner, Fine and scarce mixed issue franking. Walcott No. 2579.

This is an early use of the 1¢ blue 1861 issue with the Aug. 21st EDU on cover. The illegal, demonetized 1¢ 1857 issue pair were allowed to pass through the mails by the Cortland Village postmaster.

Eagle on Shield with Flag Within, red white and blue patriotic label on light buff cover to Mark Abell, Co. B 2d Ohio Cavalry, Via Fort Scott Kansas bearing 1¢ blue (63) strip of three, each stamp cancelled with three manuscript strokes, matching "Rockport O. June 25" postmark; couple short perfs, some edge wear, Very Fine, Sold "as is" with regard to label.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

The Second Ohio Calvary was recruited during the summer of 1861 and mustered into three years of service at Camp Wade. It was then relocated to Camp Dennison where it received marching orders in January 1862. The 2nd Calvary was then moved to Platte City, MO before moving to Fort Scott, Kansas the following month. In Kansas, the Calvary was engaged in fighting Indians and Confederate guerrillas through the end of June 1862. The Calvary then went to Indian Territory before returning to Missouri and finally Ohio.

Eagle with Shield, Flags, and Symbols, Magee red, white and blue patriotic design with "Onward to Victory" slogan on cover to Austria bearing 1¢ blue, 3¢ rose, 12¢ black (63, 65, 69 pair) tied by Boston "Paid" grid cancellations, red "Boston Br Pkt 7 Paid Sep 8" exchange c.d.s., carried by Cunard Line Europa from Boston Sep. 3rd to Queenstown arriving Sep. 13th, red "Aachen Franco 16 / 9" framed transit with manuscript "5 / 15" rating for 5 kreuzer internal German fee and 15 kr foreign fee, Meran arrival backstamp, redirected to Switzerland with various backstamps including Zurich (9.21) and Lausanne (9.22) backstamps, 3¢ with straight edge, Very Fine, ex-Matthies, Gabriel, Mark Gordon; with 1987 P.F. certificate. Walcott No. 2463.
