(Western Usages) "C.V. Sep. 11 /62", manuscript postmark on buff cover to Battle Creek Mich. bearing 1¢ blue pair and block of eight on reverse, rich color with each neatly cancelled by two manuscript strokes, prepaid 10¢ Transcontinental rate, minor soiling at reduced slightly at left, Very Fine and scarce Nevada Territory use.
Estimate    $2,000 - 3,000.

A REMARKABLE TRANSCONTINENTAL USE FROM NEVADA TERRITORY, ONE OF ONLY FOUR RECORDED BLOCKS ON COVER.

"C.V." is Carson Valley (Carson City), Utah Territory that was established on December 10th 1852. It became Nevada Territory in 1861. On 8/20/1863, Carson Valley became Genoa, Ormsby County, then Douglas County.

(Western Usages) Virginia City, N.T. Feb 14, neat strike of cds ties 1¢ blue (63) on drop rate cover addressed locally with "present"; some cover restoration, Very Fine appearance, a scarce Nevada Territory drop letter use, Illustrated in Evans as fig. 16-19, page 325., ex-Nowak, Lee.

Nevada Territory existed only from 3/2/1861 to 10/31/1864 when it became a state.

(Transcontinental Usages) Biddeford, Me Oct 28, light buff cover bearing 1¢ blue (63) and 2¢ black (73) strip of three and single, all cancelled by four-rings cancels at the triple rate to San Francisco Cal.; reduced slightly at left with some wear, right 2¢ faulty, otherwise Very Fine, a very unusual franking, ex-Allen, Burrows.
