1838 (Oct. 18) "S.Boat", tiny red straightline handstamp and manuscript "12" rating on folded letter datelined "New York 18 Oct 1838" to Kingston N.Y.; pre-use crease, F.-V.F., This is perhaps the rarest of all the Hudson River steamboat markings that was used on the Kingston run 1830-1839.

Steamer Cote Joyeuse, script straightline in fancy shield handstamp with spread eagle, arrows, stars and olive branches on reverse of Feb. 12th 1845 folded letter from New Orleans La. to Natchitoches La., contents in French, F.-V.F., A spectacular and rare exhibition item.; with 1994 P.S.E. certificate.

Creole, straight-line handstamp of colorless letters, heavily embossed over magenta manuscript "Creole" on 1853-55 3¢ red on buff entire (U1) from Buchanan Carroll correspondence to New Orleans, cancelled by "Steam" straightline cancel and matching "New Orleans La. Apr 3" cds; minor toning and wear, Fine, Pictured in Milgram as listing example, ex-Knapp.
Milgram No. 312    Estimate $300 - 400.

A rare marking and one of the most peculiar of vessel named markings in this period. This handstamp does not come heavily inked, this is one of the best examples known.
