5-Point Star, unusually clear strike ties 10¢ brown (150), rich color, on blue 1871 folded letter to Langnau, Switzerland, red "New York Paid All Oct 31" exchange cds, carried as endorsed on Hapag Line Holsatia that arrived at Plymouth on Nov. 10th 1871, reverse with Bern (11.13), Basel (11.13) and partial Langnau arrival, Very Fine, Illustrated in Weiss NYFM on page 148, ex-Weiss; with 1987 P.F. certificate.

8-Point Star, two strikes in red tie well centered 6¢ carmine (148) vertical pair, rich color, on 1872 cover to Ireland prepaying the 6¢ treaty rate plus 6¢ supplementary mail fee, red "New York Paid All Nov 5" exchange cds, Cork (11.18.72) transit and indistinct arrival backstamps; bottom 6¢ small perf flaw, Very Fine; with clear 2003 P.F. certificate.
Weiss No. ST-8P1    Estimate $400 - 600.

There are less than 10 recorded strikes of this cancel, which was used on supplementary mail in red during the years of 1871 and 1872. There is a five year gap and it reappears in 1877 only with strikes in black.

8-Point Solid Star, fine strike cancels 6¢ dull pink (159) and 10¢ brown (150) on 1873 cover to Roubaix, France, red "New York '6' Sep 13" exchange credit cds, endorsed "per Steamer Mosel", red London Paid (9.25.73) transit cds, Calais (9.25) entry cds and Roubaix (9.25) arrival backstamp, 1873 arrival docketing at left, Very Fine appearance, One of less than 10 recorded ST-8P2 covers, this being one of the more complete strikes., ex-Ainsworth.
