1857, 1¢ blue, type IIIa, attractively centered clearly showing wide break in frameline at top, tied by "Orford, N.H., Feb 12" cds on unsealed circular rate cover to Wells River, Vt.; stamp with a few tone perfs at top right, otherwise Very Fine; with 2011 P.F. certificate.

1857, 1¢ blue, type IIIa, position 86L4, rich plate 4 color with strong impression, used with 3¢dull red (26) single and pair, canceled together by "Charleston S.C. Jan 12" cds on cover front with backflap only, Fine; with 1979 P.F. certificate.

1857, 1¢ blue, type V, horizontal pair, right stamp showing curl in head variety, tied by two strikes of blue "Balto, Paid" circular handstamp on 1860 wrapper to Amsterdam, Holland, manuscript "12½" Dutch Cents postage due and triangular "1½ c., Amsterdam" handstamp (a fiscal tax on all printed matter from foreign countries); right stamp with pulled perf at bottom, still Very Fine and attractive.

1857, 3¢ dull red, type III, head cut out of stamp and placed adjacent, both tied by two strikes of circular grid cancel on orange buff cover with fancy Maine State Seminary printed corner card to Garland Me., matching "Lewiston Me. Jun 6" cds; small edge tear into cds, otherwise Very Fine, an interesting whimsical design.

Pkt., Dec 9" exchange cds, endorsed "Collins steamer" but sent via Cunard steamer Africa, blue manuscript "12" for 10 decimes British Sea Postage plus 2 decimes Belgian inland postage, transit and receiving backstamps, F.-V.F. and rare.
