(Nevada) Centerville, Cal. "Beatty House/Centerville,/Grass Valley,/Nevada County, California.", fancy printed corner card used as postmark with manuscript "Aug. 30" date alongside and "10" rate at right on buff cover to Massachusetts, right side with cover wrinkle, Extremely Fine, a wonderful rarity showing the corner card used as Post Office mark of origin, included is a photo of an ex-Knapp cover with similar usage from the Beatty House & different type of corner card.

Lot 87    

(Nevada) Centerville, Cal., "Beatty House, Centerville, Grass Valley, Nevada County, California" printed corner card used as a postmark with manuscript date alongside on cover to New York with manuscript "10" rate; small mended tear affecting marking and corner nick at bottom left, Very Fine, described in the Knapp sale as…extremely fine and one of the greatest of rarity as Centerville was a Post Office for 13 months only, ex Knapp, Pierce.

(Nevada) Centerville, Cal. /8 January 1852, manuscript postmark on cover to Salem City, Oregon Terr. with manuscript "10" rate and perfect strike of "Peckham's Hotel/Centerville/Grass-Valley, Cal." oval handstamp, Extremely Fine and choice, undoubtedly the finest strike of this, the only 19th century California Hotel forwarder handstamp, indicating "to the mails" service.

(Nevada) "Grass Valley Cal, Nov 29", manuscript postmark at left on buff cover to East Kingston N.H. bearing 1¢ blue (7), two strips of three, left being positions 91-93L1E (Pos. 91L1E with Triple Transfer, One Inverted), large margins including lower left sheet margins, just touched at top left, beautiful color, both cancelled by same "Grass Valley Cal Nov 29" postmark and additional pen strokes, Very Fine.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Lot 92    

(Nevada) Nevada City Cal., Aug 10, 1860, cds on 10¢ green (U16) on buff entire addressed to "Hon Abram Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois", endorsed "Overland" at left, appears to be docketed "needs no answer" at left in Mary Lincoln's hand; some edge wear, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Since this cover pre-dates Lincoln's successful election as President of the United States later in 1860, it is likely that the enclosure simply contained well wishes for Lincoln.

Lot 93    

(Nevada) North Columbia, California 1865. Aug. 17th, gem cancel with manuscript date, on cover to Pomfret Vermont with "Per Steamer", franked with 3¢ rose (defective), cover repaired, F.-V.F. appearance, the only known example, unlisted in Williams and illustrated in Coburn's Letters of Gold.

(Nevada) Rough & Ready Cal., Feb 17, 1858, two strikes of cds tie 1¢ blue, type IV (9) horizontal strip of four, mostly large margins to in at lower left, rich color, on 6¢ green on buff entire (U14) to Kittaning, Pa., Very Fine and rare use, ex-Risvold.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

A RARE 1¢ 1851 STRIP OF FOUR USES ON 6¢ NESBITT PREPAYING THE 10¢ RATE FOR OVER 3,000 MILES.

Lot 95    

(Orange) Yorba Linda, Cal, 9-3-14, manuscript provisional postmark (Williams unlisted) tying 1¢ green on post card to Los Angeles, Very Fine, the only recorded manuscript mark noted as being used in Orange County and the earliest recorded usage for this Post Office which opened in July of 1912.
