(Riverside) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Banning, Cal., bold sharp strike of purple oval handstamp cancels 2¢ brown entire to Harrisburg Pa., printed black Wells Fargo paid frank, entered mails with partial cds, reverse with "Harrisburg Pa. Rec'd, Feb 11, 1885" cds; some faults including missing backflap, F.-V.F. with a choice strike of this scarce town.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Banning Cal. is named for Phineas Banning, stagecoach line owner and the "Father of the Port of Los Angeles.".

(Riverside) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Banning, Cal., bold violet handstamp on 1887, 2¢ green entire to San Diego, printed frank (WFE-060) at top, Extremely Fine, this is the finest example of this handstamp known of which it is believed that fewer than five exist.

THE FINEST OF ONLY TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE BEAUMONT OVAL.

(Riverside) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Beaumont, Cal., two strikes of oval handstamp used as a frank and canceller on cover to St. Louis, Mo., one tying 1873, 3¢ Banknote, Very Fine, one of two known examples of the Beaumont handstamp, Beaumont was a small railroad station located in the desert mountain pass west of Banning, ex-Hertz.

(Riverside) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Perris, Cal., purple oval handstamp on 1887, 2¢ green entire to San Diego, black frank (WFE-060) at top, Very Fine, this Perris handstamp is believed to be unique, Perris is a small railroad station located south of the town of Riverside on a spur line that ran to Hemet, unlisted in Leutzinger, ex-Hertz.

(Riverside) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Riverside, Cal., Apr. 28, 1888, exceptional bold purple oval date stamp on 1887, 2¢ green entire to the very rare location of Seven Palms which is located north of Palm Springs, printed frank (WFE-060) at top; missing most of backflap, otherwise Extremely Fine, Riverside is unlisted in Leutzinger, it is believed that one other example may exist from this location.
