(Amador) Volcano, Cal., Apr. 23, 1861, bold strike of cds (AMA-1530) ties 10¢ green (68) and matching bold strike adjacent on light buff cover to East Greensboro Vt.; reduced slightly at right, interesting original letter accompanies, "The floods have been awful. In some of the vallies not a vistage of imporvement remained. Cattle horses hogs and every other species of farming property were swept away…" and "It seems as if secession was getting badly handled lately. I guess that foreign nations begin to think that Brother Johnathan is not so big a coward after all the fuss they have made. And perhaps they can pattern of the 'Blasted Yankees' (as they call us sometimes) in regard to battle ships…", Very Fine.
