1862 (May) Boston Mass. to St. Petersburg, Russia, Pierce correspondence mourning cover bearing two 1¢ blue (63) singles and three 24¢ dark lilac (78) singles, red crayon "28" cent double-weight credit rating, carried by Cunard Australasian from New York May 21st to Queenstown arriving May 31st, red "Aachen Franco" (6.3) framed transit and "fr 6" sbr rating, docketed as received Jun. 7th 1862 on reverse; one 1¢ and one 24¢ damaged, F.-V.F., A scarce use at the 37¢ Prussian Closed Mail rate to Russia., ex-Gibson.

1859 (May 19) New Orleans La. to Barcelona, Spain, blue folded cover bearing 1¢ blue, type V (24) block of four, well centered with strong color, tied by "New Orleans La. Nov. 25" cds to Barcelona, Spain, red "Printed Circular" straightline and endorsed "v/ England", New York bold red "2" credit rating handstamp, carried by Cunard Line Persia from New York May 25th to Liverpool arriving Jun. 4th, La Junquera (6.7) transit backstamp and "½Rs." real due rating handstamp, Barcelona (6.8) arrival cds, block originally folded over top (creased between stamps), the cover has been refolded to show the complete franking and Barcelona receiving backstamp, Very Fine and ideal for exhibition, ex-Grunin.

Pkt. Mar 19" exchange cds, carried by Cunard Line Niagara from Boston Mar. 20th to Queenstown Apr. 2nd, reverse with London (4.3) transit and Barcelona (4.7) arrival backstamps, black "12. Rs." due rating handstamp; light vertical fold toning, left 5¢ short corner perf, Very Fine and rare double-weight use, ex-White, Knapp.

Lousiana was admitted to the Confederacy on February 4, 1861.

Rs." due rating handstamp; cover and stamp faults, Fine, A scarce use at double the 21¢ French mail rate with the 10¢ type I August issue.
