1860, 1861 Pigeon Cove - Egypt correspondence pair, two covers by French mail to and from Mr. and Mrs. George W. Dennison, 1860 cover with "Cairo, 25 Nov 60" cds, London (12.6) transit backstamp with manuscript "24" cent debit to U.S., carried by Hapag Line Borussia, "Boston Am. Pkt. Dec 20" exchange cds and blue crayon "45" cent due rating, 1861 yellow cover with "Pigeon Cove Mass. Mar 15" cds and manuscript "60" due rating, black "Boston '6' Mar 16" debit exchange cds, carried by Allan Line North Briton, French transit, Alexandria (4.7) arrival backstamp with manuscript "32" decimes due rating (60¢), small edge flaws, F.-V.F., A scarce correspondence pair.

1855 (May 30) Harvard Mass. to Jaffa, Syria (Turkish Empire), orange buff cover with manuscript "Harvard Ms., My 21" postmark and matching "Paid 45" cent rating, red "Returned for Postage" two-line handstamp and magenta "Due 26" rating totalled to "71" prepaid rating, partial red "New York, Am. Packet, May 30" exchange backstamp and magenta "50" cent credit rating, carried by Collins Line Baltic from New York May 30th to Liverpool arriving Jun. 10th, red London Paid (6.11) and matching oval "PD" handstamp, Alexandria (6.28) transit backstamp; no flap, edgewear, F.-V.F.

THE ONLY RECORDED COVER SENT AT THE 71¢ BRITISH MAIL RATE VIA MARSEILLES TO THE TURKISH EMPIRE.

This cover was originally prepaid 45¢, it was returned for postage and sent at the 71¢ British Mail rate via Marseilles to the Turkish Empire.

Boston Mass. to Beyrout, Syria (Turkish Empire), orange buff cover with Boston red "Paid" framed handstamp and pencil "60" cent prepaid rating, red crayon "42" credit rating, carried by Inman Line Edinburgh from New York Mar. 10th to Liverpool Mar. 22nd, French (3.23.60) transit cds and black "P.D." framed handstamp, manuscript rating, Paris (3.24) transit backstamp, manuscript received April 10th 1860 docketing on backflap; reduced slightly at right, Very Fine.
